Village Power, thanks to Médecins Sans Frontières (https://www.msf.org/ ), installed solar home systems in May and June of 2020 to power a total of 7 rural health facilities as a COVID-19 response to unreliable electricity supply in Arua and Adjumani districts. MSF was looking for a permanent solution that would make the patients stay at the health facilities better and provide a lighting solution. A solar solution from a provider in the West Nile region was sourced and Village Power had the regional presence and right solar solutions to fulfil the requirements and needs of the health facilitates.
Médecins Sans Frontières brings medical humanitarian assistance and, in Uganda, is working to provide medical care, mother and child health services, and water and sanitation activities for South Sudanese refugees who have fled to Uganda. Over 70% of the rural population in Uganda has limited access to energy, the COVID-19 global lockdown has exacerbated the remoteness of access to modern energy services. The need to travel to access services and goods in towns, and services in health centers and cities have been stressed by the movement restrictions which has highlighted the need for increased local presence of energy service providers in the last mile.
